Candy-Corn Sugar Cookies

I was looking for a fun recipe for book club tonight. This was emailed to me as the Cookie of the Day. (Sorry it's another recipe from Everyday Foods, but it's one of my favorite magazines.)
Preheat oven to 350. Place 4 T. very soft unsalted butter and 1/2 c. sugar in a medium bowl. Beat with a wooden spoon until combined. Beat in 1 large egg yolk, 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1/4 tsp. baking powder. Add 3/4 c. flour and mix until dough forms (mine was pretty crumbly, so I actually just squished it together with my hands). Scoop out in teaspoons (cookie scoop is good here) and roll into balls. (I also rolled mine in sugar...they are sugar cookies.) Place on baking sheet (I always use parchment) 2 inches apart and bake for 10-12 min. Remove from oven and press a candy corn in the center. Move to cooling racks.
Martha says this will make 36 cookies, I'm calling her bluff...I only got 16 out of it...so I made another batch. The picture that Martha showed also had brown cookies, but no recipe. I thought they looked cute so for my second batch, I substituted 1/4 c. cocoa powder and decreased the flour to 1/2. They worked well and my hubby actually preferred them to the regular.
Either way, they were festive and easy. I'm sure your kids would love helping to make them as much as my little one did.
