This is one of the most common used food prep items in my kitchen. Years ago I got this recipe from a lady on tv touting her 'green-knowledge' (sorry I didn't note her name or the program to give credit). Anyway, this is a great fruit/veggie cleaner to get off dirt and some pesticides if you aren't able to get organic.
I mix this up about once a month and keep it in the spray bottle under the kitchen sink.
*1 c. water
*1 c. white vinegar
*1 TBSP. baking soda
*20 drops grapefruit seed oil extract (you get this in health stores)
In a large liquid measuring cup (I use the 8-cup size), combine water and baking soda. Gather the kids around to watch the bubbles when you add the vinegar. Wait until it stops foaming. Put extract in the spray bottle and pour vinegar solution in as well.
To use: Rinse fruit/veggie. Spray with fruit spray and let sit for a minute, preferably about 5. Rinse with water and then serve.
